Groundbreaking Ceremony for the St. Barbara Hospice in Thalheim – Architecture with Social Significance

A project that goes far beyond construction: A new hospice is being built in Thalheim as a key component of care for the seriously ill in Upper Austria.

For us at Delta Pods Architects, one thing is central to our work: creating spaces that not only serve a functional purpose but also provide a sense of security – places of dignity, tranquility, and humanity.

This project powerfully demonstrates the contribution Architecture can make to quality of life – especially at the end of life.

Special thanks go to Deputy Governor Mag. Christine Haberlander for her long-standing commitment to expanding comprehensive hospice and palliative care services, as well as to our clients, the Kreuzschwestern Europa Mitte and the St. Barbara Hospice, for their trust and collaborative partnership.

What makes this project special for us:

  • Here, Architecture serves not a purpose, but people
  • Spaces are specifically designed to convey a sense of security, tranquility, and appreciation
  • Use of sustainable materials such as wood and clay for a healthy indoor climate
  • Conscious conservation of resources through the use and further development of existing structures
  • Integration of the mature garden into the overall concept

“As an architect, it is particularly important to me to design spaces that create atmosphere and empower the people at the hospice in Thalheim—a place that conveys a sense of comfort through the use of wood and clay.”

Tobias Ziegelmeyer, Lead Architect Wels, Delta Pods Architects

We are proud to provide comprehensive support for this special project—from the Study through to Execution Design and Construction Supervision (Site Supervision) (ÖBA).
