2nd Prize in the Competition for the New Security Centre St. Pölten
As part of a limited general planning competition, the Province of Lower Austria awarded visionary designs for the new Security Centre St. Pölten – a central hub for police services, administration, training, and operational logistics, comprising approx. 54,500 m² of gross floor area.
Delta Pods Architects presented an integrative campus concept inspired by the archetypal settlement form of the “Angerdorf” – reinterpreted into a contemporary spatial structure. Four modular courtyard buildings are arranged around a generous central green space that serves as a defining focal point, offering short distances, strong orientation, and high spatial quality.
The concept unites:
- sustainable hybrid timber construction with a high degree of prefabrication
- a biophilic landscape design aligned with sponge city principles
- a functional ensemble marked by resilience, security, and openness
- comprehensive building services solutions with a focus on energy efficiency and climate resilience
“Our design for the Security Centre St. Pölten stands for architecture as a response to security-related, social and ecological challenges.”
